New to bitcoin?
You don't need to own any bitcoin before you start. A passkey on your phone to sign in, and Cash App or a store to pay, are enough.
1. Sign in with a passkey
There are no usernames or passwords here. On the order page, pick Passkey, then Create a passkey. Your phone or computer asks for Face ID, a fingerprint or your screen lock, and you're signed in.
- Your phone or browser keeps the passkey (iCloud Keychain on Apple devices, Google Password Manager on Android and Chrome), so it's on your other devices too.
- Next time, choose Sign in with a passkey. Don't create a second one: each passkey is its own account.
- Optional: add a recovery email when you order, and confirm it from the link we send. If you ever lose the passkey, you can use it to move your servers to a new one.
Already have a Lightning wallet such as Phoenix? Its Lightning login works too.
2. Pay
After you order, you get an invoice with a QR code. Choose Lightning: it arrives in seconds and costs almost nothing to send.
- Cash App: the first time, Cash App asks you to verify your identity before it will pay with bitcoin; US law requires that of apps like it. Then tap the QR scanner on the home screen, scan the invoice, and pay. It can pay from your dollar balance and converts for you.
- Strike, which checks your ID too, or any Lightning wallet with money in it, works the same way.
- Already have bitcoin on an exchange? Coinbase and Kraken can both send over Lightning: when you send, pick Lightning as the network and paste or scan the invoice. LoomNode takes Lightning only for now, not on-chain payments.
Prices are in sats, the smallest unit of bitcoin. The invoice shows the exact amount, and your app shows what that is in dollars before you pay.
Only have cash?
Cash App takes paper money at many stores, such as Walmart, Walgreens and Dollar General. In Cash App, choose to add paper money to get a barcode, then hand the cash to the cashier. Cash App charges $1, and some stores add a small fee. Then pay the invoice as above.
Topping up
Each server has a top-up link. Anyone can use it to add time, with no sign-in: share it with friends who play on your server.
Why bitcoin?
No card details to leak, no account to hack and no subscription to cancel. You buy exactly the time you want, and nobody, me included, can take more than you sent.
