Uploading files (SFTP)

SFTP lets you copy files between your computer and your server with a free app. Use it for anything big (the game panel's file manager in your browser takes files up to 256 MB), to bring your own Minecraft world, or to keep a copy of your server's files.

1. Your details

  • Address, port and username: open your server in the game panel and go to Settings. Under SFTP Information, the connection looks like sftp://w1a2b3c4d5e6.ab12cd34@play.loomnode.cloud:2022. That's your panel username, a dot and your server's short id, then the address, then the port. The port is 2022 or 2023 depending on which machine your server is on; use the one shown there.
  • Password: your panel password. If you've only used Open game panel, you don't have one yet: on Your servers, press New panel password. It's shown once, so paste it straight into your SFTP app.

2. Connect

Windows: WinSCP

  1. Install WinSCP, free from winscp.net.
  2. In the login window, choose SFTP as the file protocol. Host name play.loomnode.cloud, then the port, user name and password from step 1.
  3. Press Login. Your server's files are on the right, your computer's on the left; drag files across.

Windows, Mac or Linux: FileZilla

  1. Install the FileZilla client, free from filezilla-project.org. Turn down any extra software the installer offers.
  2. In the bar at the top: Host sftp://play.loomnode.cloud, then your username, password and port. Press Quickconnect.

Linux: your file manager

  1. In Files, choose Other Locations and type sftp://USERNAME@play.loomnode.cloud:PORT into Connect to Server, with your username and port from step 1.
  2. The password prompt can open behind other windows; if nothing seems to happen, look for it.

The first time you connect, your app asks whether to trust the server's key. That's normal: accept it. If it ever says the key has changed, don't continue; email support@loomnode.cloud.

Bring your Minecraft world

  1. In the game panel, stop your server. A running server can save over your upload.
  2. On your computer, find your world. Singleplayer worlds are in your Minecraft folder under saves, one folder per world (on Windows, type %appdata%\.minecraft\saves into File Explorer's address bar).
  3. In your SFTP app, rename the server's world folder to something like world-old, so you can go back.
  4. Upload your world's folder and rename it to world. It should have level.dat directly inside.
  5. Start the server. A world from an older Minecraft version is upgraded the first time it loads, and can't be opened in that older version afterwards, so keep your own copy.

Once it works, delete world-old: everything you keep on the server counts toward your storage.

Keep your own copy

Download your world folder (or the whole server) to your computer. For a clean copy, stop the server first, or type save-all in the panel's console and wait a few seconds. Nightly backups are also kept for you: restore them from Backups in the game panel.

Good to know

  • SFTP uploads must fit in your storage. There's no other size limit. Your server's storage holds its files and its backups together; Your servers shows how much you have.
  • Your password reaches all your files. Don't share it. If it ever leaks, make a new one on Your servers: the old one stops working at once, and open SFTP connections are cut off.
  • Stuck? Email support@loomnode.cloud or ask on Discord.
